So for this post, I thought I’d do something a little different. It’s a listicle!! (Not to be confused with testicle) So during the past couple of weeks, I’ve had the pleasure of going to a bunch of open mics and meeting all kinds of new artists. So here they are in no particular order:
1. Barrio Barista Open Mic with Victoria Garcia-Zapata Klein
Where: Barrio Barista

When: Every second and fourth Wednesday of the month 7-10pm; Sign up is at 6:30pm
What: A beautiful poetry open mic with a different featured poet each time hosted by Victoria Garcia-Zapata Klein. Barrio Barista is a lovely café serving wonderful drinks and snacks like horchata lattes and barbacoa grilled cheese. This event is free and all ages. Come to perform some poems or simply show your support to the poets of San Anto.
2. Boneheadz Open Mic with Bryan Patrick
Where: Bonheadz Dive Bar
9503 Console Dr
San Antonio, TX 78229
When: Every Tuesday
10pm-2am; Sign up is at 9:30pm
What: A rockin’ open mic hosted by the brilliant singer/songwriter Bryan Patrick. Come on out and bring your guitar, drums, piano, or voice! Need some accompaniment? Ask some of the other musicians if they’ll be your backup. (It helps to buy them a drink) Don’t forget to tip your friendly Boneheadz bartenders. This event is free and 21 and up.
3. Poetry Without Apology with J Alejandro
Where: The Tavern

When: Every second and fourth Monday 8pm; Sign up at 7:30pm
What: An adventurous night of poetry and performance hosted by the ever charismatic poet, J Alejandro. Bring out your honest, blunt poetry and tell the world what you really think. Food and drinks are available from The Tavern who also have a full bar. This event is free and all ages. Come let out your Monday frustrations!
4. J&Os Cantina Open Mic with Jordan Moonz
Where: J&Os Cantina
1014 S Presa St
San Antonio, TX 78210
When: Every Thursday 9pm-2pm
What: A combination of eclectic sounds hosted by the lovely singer Jordan Moonz. From guitar solos to full on bands to violin beats, this open mic says bring it all! J&Os Cantina is one of the coziest bars in town complete with a beautiful chandelier and an intimate stage. This event is free and 21 and up.
5. Franky Diablos Open Mic with Orlando Gonzales
Where: Franky Diablos
1301 Roosevelt Ave
San Antonio, TX 78210
When: Every Monday
10pm-2am
What: The newest open mic in town hosted by the talented Orlando Gonzales. Franky Diablos is a unique bar with tin walls and day of the dead décor! Their light show adds to every musician’s performance. Come sing your heart out, play a tune or tell some jokes! This event is free and 21 and up.
